Karl P., June 2009, final shoot

I was back in Los Angeles and KP and I decided to shoot one more time together since I was in town. I thought my hair actually looked cool for this shoot and I probably ended up liking these shots better than the three other shoots KP and I did. This would be the last time KP and I worked together but we stay in touch. These pictures felt very socal to me and were shot in KP studio in Silver Lake, CA.

Ev Dylan photoshoot in Malibu - May 2009

If you live in California you know that the Pacific Ocean is cold all year around, it can be 100 degrees outside, but the ocean is still ice cold. On one of his trips to California shooting models Ev Dylan and I shot in Malibu for the first time. This was a problem shoot for me, not because of the cold water which I was happy to endure, but the in-between-stage of my hair. I was in the process of growing my hair out and failed to make it look decent on this shoot. Ev Dylan was also in town shooting a Paul Frank concept which I had helped organize with various models

My friend Michelangelo Orsini was also part of the Paul Frank shoot so we did a couple shots together. I guess some models can really deliver when it comes to duo shoots, I however have always failed at it. Orsini and I just didn't work in the same frame.

Ev Dylan Part 7, early spring 2009

After working with Ev Dylan so much, I became a great way for him to bounce ideas off as well as concepts and looks for other photoshoots he was working on. If either of had ideas and spare time we would do what I call "mini shoots" of just a single concept. Sometimes these worked out, others they didn't. So here is a few of those grouped together. Some have been on Model Mayhem, other have never been seen at all.

Working with Phil Collumn in Malibu, CA - Feb 2009

I was introduced to photographer Phil Collum of Aspect Intensity by his model muse Orlando "Lando" Lopez who worked with Ev Dylan. Phil and I put together some great ideas, and I had been near the interesting location in the Malibu State Park before, but wanted to hike up to this abandon water tower. Inside was graffiti and a very neat setting for a skater looking idea I had.

Phil probably worked harder on getting the right type of light and effect that I have ever seen, his attention to detail was great and it was clear he was a perfectionist. We spent the entire day up at the park area and got some great images. Phil is another photographer that is really awesome to work with because of his seriousness and dedication to getting it right.

I would love to work with Phil again, but I can't seem to get in contact with him, not sure if he has given up photography or not.

Feb 2009 my first international photoshoot - CAYMAN ISLANDS

I was lucky enough to get to shoot in The Cayman Islands with photographer and friend Ev Dylan. It was mid February and very warm in that part of the world. You can even see my sunburn in a couple of the shots. It was an amazing experience working with a photographer that I understood and was comfortable with in an entirely new kind of location and dynamic.

Grand Cayman is only about 2.5 hours from Houston Texas flying time, but the scenery and culture is completely different. We found this half destroyed boat, which as you can see from the pictures we used for full effect. The colors are more vivid and unique than any shots I had done up to this point. Even the volcanic rock made for very cool texture in some of the shots.

First shoot of 2009 - John Galang - Los Angeles, CA

So with nearly shaved hair, a new year I returned to Los Angeles for a week, and worked with wardrobe stylist John Galang. Also a young photographer, Galang had caught my attention on Model Mayhem with his intriguing themed styles and very appropriate locations. He was doing something no one else was on Model Mayhem, and I really wanted to work with him.

Perhaps finding a location was both of our faults, but when Galang suggested we shoot in my apartment in LA, with his lights it seemed like a good idea. The end result of the photos were not what either of us had hoped they would be, and would not be posted at all. The light made me look flat, the wardrobe choices didn't work with my look, and I guess you just can't win them all.

I still greatly admire Galang's work and creativity. I think he has a real talent for putting these ideas together and shooting outdoor with natural light.

Check out his work here.
